Annex 9. of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina signed in Paris on 14. December 1995. provides for the establishment, by the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska, of Bosnia and Herzegovina public corporations for their mutual benefit

BHRPC is established for the mutual benefit of the Federation of BiH and the Republic of Srpska and its purpose is to establish an institutionalized cooperation between the entities and to facilitate decision-making in the transport sector

Within the transportation sector railways constitute a specific matter and need to have their own specific structure so that a smooth, safe and regular inter-Entity and international rail traffic takes place

BHRPC acts as a joint international railway representative and promoter of the Entities and the new railway sector in BiH

Development programs of the railway sector of Bosnia and Herzegovina are the result of numerous and prominent studies that cover all segments of the reconstruction and development of railways in BiH

Plans for development of railways in BiH are thoroughly discussed, and have obtained the support of local institutions, banks creditors, friendly countries and donors

The primary mission of BHRPC is particularly reflected in the field of management and strong development of the railway infrastructure

BHRPC and Project Companies have established a railways Project Implementation Unit in BiH within the BHRPC called "PIU BHRPC"
